The MYX bike: What to know before you buy

It’s been some time since I’ve published a blog post.

Barbara (a good friend from college )and I decided to purchase the spin bikes at the same time.

Now that I’ve officially had my MYX II bike for two months, I just completed my 12th ride and 20th workout on the Bodi Interactive platform.

In this blog post, I’ll be sharing my personal experience using the bike along with the pros and the cons of the BODi Interactive On-Demand Fitness platform. Read on to see my full review on the bike, the delivery process, and my favorite instructors.

The ordering, delivery, and set process

The process to purchase the bike was fairly simple. I just went to the website to select which bike I wanted. After purchasing the bike, I was notified immediately with an estimated delivery time. My bike would arrive within seven days of purchase. Barbara, who ordered her bike at the same time, received her bike a week later. I think living in a major shopping hub impacts the delivery time.

The day prior to my bike arriving I received a notification text and email notifying me of my five hour delivery window. The delivery team also sent a notification to let me know when they were an hour away. They arrived around lunch time and we were able to meet right when I was coming home from picking up food.

The one thing I loved about the purchasing process is that self assembly isn’t required. MYX and Beach Body provide a white glove delivery service. The delivery team builds the bike in advance and helps with setup on site.

The bike

Once they helped me get my bike arranged in my spare bedroom and home office, the setup process to start a ride was fairly seamless with a few hiccups. After plugging everything in, I was prompted to connect to my wifi and then login into my Beach Body account. And then I was ready to start riding on my spin bike.

Getting fitted for the bike was easy. The bike also comes with an instructional video to help you adjust the height and seating to your body type. The video takes you step by step to ensure that your rides are comfortable.

Each spin bike has a large adjustable and rotating tablet screen. You can adjust the monitor to your best viewing point but also turn the screen left or right so you can do an off bike class in the same room. I love this feature because it makes it easy to do barre, meditation, boot camp or strength class in the same space.

I also love that the bike has Bluetooth connectivity. So if I want to quietly ride by connecting my headphones while my puppy is sleeping I can do so.

I ran into two challenges during the set up process.

The first challenge was figuring out the power cord setup. There is a power cord that connects to the back of the bike. Each time I would attempt a first ride it would disconnect. After watching a few YouTube reviews I figured out you need to weave the cord through a metal pipe on the bike.

The second challenge I faced was figuring out how to charge my external heart rate monitor. Each bike comes with an external heart rate monitor that allows you to monitor your performance during workouts. The instructional guide states that you can charge your heart rate monitor through a connection on the back of the bike or by using your cell phone charging dock. After two days of connecting my heart rate monitor to the back of the bike it still wasn’t charging. So I’ve defaulted to using my cell phone charger which charges the heart rate monitor within the hour.

My favorite BODi instructors

I typically take one cycle class and two strength classes a week. I also find time to fit in a barre or yoga class one day a week. I’ve set a personal goal to try a workout from each  BODi interactive instructor. Here are my favorite instructors that I’ve tried so far and why.

Jenn Padilla

Jenn has the best workouts! I always look for her classes on the schedule and available on demand. I love her Barre BOOTI classes and boot camp classes. Her playlists are always jammin too! She’s got amazing energy and always drops in some motivational nuggets in the midst of working out.

Eric Thompson

Eric’s classes are tough but in a good way! I’m always feeling the heat during his cycle and strength workouts but leaving each workout feeling fit. He’s energetic and fun too! He’s also super motivating which helps when you are in the middle of a workout contemplating your decision to exercise.

Chelsea Hill

Chelsea is my favorite instructor! I love her cycle and barre classes! She always chooses the best music! I know walking into the workout that I’m going to have fun and be guaranteed to listen to a great playlist.

Meghan Davies

You may remember that I completed Meghan’s MBF and MBFA program last year! So I was already familiar with her training style before BODi interactive. I love her strength and boot camp workouts. I recently tried one of her cycle classes and I’m on the fence about if I’ll ride with her again.

Bee Bosnak

I’ve started ending each day with a meditation class. Bee is the main meditation instructor for the BODi Interactive platform. Her classes wipe away the stresses of the day and leave me feeling at peace. I’ve started with her 10 and 15 minute classes and i'm working my way up to 20 minutes.

Final thoughts

I’m so happy I purchased the MYX bike. It makes it easy to workout. I don’t have any excuses not to workout when the bike is right in the next room.

I love to move my body daily. The bike and BODi interactive platform makes working out fun.

My only gripe about the BODi interactive platform is that I can’t workout with a friend and compete with them. They offer a feature called the Bodcast where you can join a live class, be seen on camera, workout with other people. But I’m missing that connection point outside of the live workouts. They have challenge badges that you can receive but I’m also missing seeing my peers' stats. Hopefully this feature is in the works.
