4 Beauty Treatments I’ve Tried and Will Never Do Again

Over the past couple of years I’ve become obsessed with trying new beauty treatments. There are some treatments that I love and continue to incorporate into my regimen. But there are some that I will never try again. In today’s blog post, I’m giving you the Lo down on which treatments didn’t work for me and why.

SnS nails

For a couple of years, I consistently went to the salon every 2-3 weeks to get my nails done. I started with the gel manicure and switched to SnS when it became popular. I’ve been getting regular manicures since I was a pre-teen so my nail beds are pretty strong and tend to grow fast. I liked the SnS manicure because it’s supposed to add vitamins back into your nails. Have you ever heard that saying ” too much of a good thing can be bad for you”? Well that’s how I now feel about SnS. The SnS manicure caused my nail beds to weaken but I also experienced overgrowth. In my experience, it’s not something you can do once, you have to continue doing it once you start. It’s also a pretty penny to get an SnS manicure. Expect to pay $80 or more for a manicure. I started to look at my budget and do the math and think is it worth it? I recently decided to ditch the gel shellac manicure as well. I’m back to getting manicures with regular nail polish every once a month. The decision was due to cost savings and it’s taken me about a year to get my nails back to a healthy state.

Eyebrow lamination

You may remember last year when I blogged about getting my eyebrows laminated. I promised an update months later so here it is. Eye lamination has become a popular trend during the past few years where individuals get a perm-like treatment done to their eyebrows to make them appear bigger and fluffier. It’s a process you have to continue once you start. Prior to getting my eyebrows laminated, my eyebrows had a good shape and growth pattern. I’ve been getting my eyebrows threaded for years. The eyebrow lamination process changed how my eyebrow hairs grow and added gaps in between my eyebrows. I went back to threading and the technician asked “why did you pluck your eyebrows?” I said I didn't, I got them laminated. After that conversation, I knew I wasn’t going to try eyebrow lamination again. Here we are six to seven months later and my eyebrows are just starting to feel normal again.

Eyelash extensions

Red eyes, puffy eyelids, eye floaters and extreme itchiness are just a few of the side effects I experienced after getting eyelash extensions for the first time. Never again! My eyelashes have always been pretty long and full! I’ve used a serum that adds collagen to your eyelashes to maintain and keep them full for years. I decided to try eyelash extensions because I wanted to do something for a special occasion. I have friends who get them religiously so I thought it would be no problem to try them. It was a horrible experience for me and my eyelashes had to regrow after the process.

At-home hair removal solutions

During the pandemic lockdown I had to give up my trips to the waxing salon and divert to at-home hair removal options. I’m a hairy girl and I needed to keep a sleek hair-free regime while being stuck at home. So I tried waxing strips and microwave friendly strip-free waxing solutions. It worked for the time period but it wasn’t like the salon experience. And it was messy! It’s just a seamless process to have someone else handle hair removal.

I would love to hear from you in the comments below which beauty treatments you’ve tried and now regret.
