How to Wear a Midi Dress When You’re Petite

I’m 5’3, which is considered petite in size. There’s a huge misconception in the fashion industry that if you are petite that some style trends are off-limits. But that’s not necessarily true. I’ve started to have an obsession with midi-dresses. Some people would say midi-dresses are reserved for taller women. Who says petite women can’t wear midi dresses? On that note, I’m sharing how shorter women can wear midi dresses.

Select the right length

Midi dresses typically hit right below the knee. Each style varies depending on where the hemline is cut. I try to opt for a dress that hits right between my knee and mid-cal to elongate my figure.

Frame your waist with layers

In my last blog post, I talked about my love of layers this fall and winter. When wearing a midi dress I typically add a blazer or a belt to accentuate my shape and show off my curves.

Show some skin

I recommend selecting a midi dress with a slit on the side or that has an a-line shaped hem. The slit or a-line hem will elongate your legs and make you appear taller.

Incorporate great shoes

The shoes that you wear with a midi dress can make or break your outfit. They define the entire look. If you are petite definitely opt for a pair of high heels or over the knee boots to appear taller.
