This year has flown by so fast I can’t believe next week we will be in August. Which means the days are getting just a little shorter and the nights a bit cooler. I’ve been tempted to buy more shorts or summer dresses to add to my wardrobe, but it seems like a waste of money. Once August rolls around, I won’t be wanting to invest in summer pieces anymore because we will be hitting those transitional months for fashion in Georgia, where the days will start hot and end in colder temps. How do you plan your wardrobe when summer is on the outs and fall is on the horizon? Today, I’m sharing how to transition your wardrobe from summer to fall.

Layers, Layers, Layers

Light layers can instantly turn a summer uniform into a fashion-forward fall look. Add a jean jacket to your summer sundress or wear it with your classic pair of skinny jeans. If you get too hot, you can easily peel off the layers.

Invest in a pair of black jeans

Black jeans are a great alternative to wear when you get tired of wearing blue jeans. They are classic but edgy and are perfect for wearing during the transition between summer to fall. You can dress them up or down, depending on the occasion. I tend to go for tighter black skinny jeans like this pair I’m wearing from Mott and Bow. I love wearing my black jeans on the weekend with a pair of tennis shoes and a classic t-shirt while running errands. But I also love pairing them with a dressy top and pair of heels for a more festive occasion.

Invest in pieces you can wear year-round

The classic t-shirt will take you through multiple seasons. During cooler days, you can pair the classic tee with a cardigan, jean jacket or sweater.

Reach for darker colors and patterns

When you think of summertime you typically think of bright colors and rich jewel tones for fall. On your next shopping trip select colors that will work to wear in both seasons like military greens, neutrals, whites, or Navy. These neutrals will help you build a capsule wardrobe when fall arrives.
